About Carolyn
Carolyn is a psychotherapist committed to helping people learn how to achieve the change and empowerment they both want and need. She has a Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University and she is completing her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Adler University where she is also an adjunct professor for Adler's CMHC program teaching counselors-in-training. She believes therapy is a way to aid others in finding the path they need in order to obtain happiness, stability, or success no matter what that might look like for each person. Her specialties and areas of interest include mood & anxiety disorders, life transitions, sex & intimacy issues, trauma, and stress management.
My Philosophy of counseling. My philosophy is grounded in the belief that individuals have the capacity to make meaningful and positive changes in their lives. Rather than simply addressing surface-level symptoms, I prioritize understanding and working through the underlying emotional and behavioral patterns that contribute to distress.
My Theoretical Orientation. I approach therapy through an eclectic and integrative framework, adapting my methods to meet the unique needs, experiences, and goals of each client. Foundationally, my work is rooted in Client-Centered theory, as I believe meaningful change begins within a strong therapeutic relationship built on honesty, warmth, acceptance, and trust. From this foundation, I incorporate evidence-based practices including DBT, ACT, IFS, and CBT to support growth and healing.
Beliefs on Change & Clinical Approach. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which client and therapist work together to foster insight, develop effective coping strategies, strengthen communication, establish healthy boundaries, and improve overall functioning. By creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment that encourages vulnerability, I aim to support clients in moving toward lasting change, greater self-understanding, and a sense of personal liberation.
I recognizes that no single theory works for everyone; therefore, I draw from multiple frameworks to tailor treatment to each individual while gathering a thorough understanding of their history and experiences to guide thoughtful and effective care.
