About Nicole
Nicole Kwon is a LPC counselor who received her BA in Political Science at Benedictine University and finished her Master’s at Wheaton College. She uses Psychoeducation and CBT and likes to adapt her counseling techniques in accordance with the client’s needs. She has experience with working with young adults going through various stages of life and helps navigating relational issues and developing good coping mechanisms. Nicole has also worked in the service world for 10-plus years and throughout her time she learned and understands that people come from various walks of life, cultures, and values and that we have a lot to learn from each other regardless of age and ethnicity. She is passionate about building good therapeutic relationships and her goal in counseling is to instill hope and healing.
My Philosophy of Counseling. Counseling is not only about addressing problems but also about recognizing and celebrating growth. I view therapy as a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, where clients can learn to appreciate their strengths, work through challenges, and move toward becoming the best version of themselves. My approach is eclectic and integrative, drawing from multiple theories and techniques to create a personalized treatment plan that meets each client’s unique needs.
My Theoretical Orientation. Foundationally, I align with Client-Centered theory, believing that meaningful change is fostered through a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, safety, and collaboration. From this foundation, I incorporate evidence-based practices such as ACT, IFS, CBT, and Client-Centered Therapy to support clients in developing insight, strengthening coping skills, and achieving their goals.
Beliefs on Change & Clinical Approach. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful catalyst for healing, offering a supportive space to explore thoughts and emotions while working through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Recognizing that no single approach works for everyone, I gather a thorough understanding of each client’s history and experiences and tailor interventions accordingly to provide thoughtful, individualized care that promotes lasting growth and positive outcomes.
